Where to Host Thanksgiving 2026: Direct-Book Homes for Big Groups

Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 26 this year. For most families the long weekend runs from Wednesday the 25th to Sunday the 29th, and the hard part is finding one house where everyone fits around the same table.

This guide gathers the Locèlle homes that work for a big group. Each one has room to sleep a family, a kitchen that can handle a full dinner, and a table worth sitting at for three hours. Every home is booked directly with its owner, with no platform fees added at checkout.

What makes a good Thanksgiving house

A holiday house is judged differently from a weekend cabin. Before you fall for the view, check five things.

  • The table. Count dining seats, not bedrooms. A house that sleeps ten but seats six means two sittings.
  • The kitchen. Ask about the oven, a roasting pan big enough for a turkey, and enough plates and glasses for the whole group.
  • Real beds. Sofa beds and air mattresses are fine for one night. Over four nights they wear thin.
  • Somewhere to scatter. A loft, a deck, a second living room. Big families need places to be apart as well as together.
  • A walk from the door. The best part of the day is often the walk between dinner and pie.

Hudson House is the largest home here. It has five bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms, sleeps ten, and looks out over the Hudson River from Newburgh. Garrett Wagner of Fable Retreats restored it with mid-century influences, collected furniture and art, and a fire for gathering around after dinner. From $2,500 a night. The Carpenter's Cabin may be the most Thanksgiving-ready house in the collection, because it was built for exactly this. Jami and Scott Jenkins made it as a gathering place for their own children and grandchildren and named it after Jami's father, a carpenter. Scott laid the hardwood floors and their son built the steel staircase.

It has five bedrooms across four levels, with a conversation pit, a library loft, a perch for kids and a screened deck. The owners designed it so up to 12 guests each have a real bed. Check the listing for the current guest limit when you enquire. From $450 a night.

The Carpenter's Cabin shares 32 wooded acres with two smaller homes from the same owners. Twelve34 House sleeps four and has a chef's kitchen and an outdoor kitchen with a pizza oven. The GloCabin sleeps two. If your family is larger, or one couple wants their own front door, ask the Jenkinses about booking more than one. Read the EcoLuxe story.

Southern California: a desert Friendsgiving

Late November is a good time to be in the California desert. The summer heat is gone and the nights are long and clear.

Planning the long weekend

A few decisions made now save a lot of group texts later.

  • Book Wednesday to Sunday. Arriving on Wednesday gives you a full day to shop and prep before Thursday. Many owners set a minimum stay over the holiday, so ask.
  • Ask the owner about the kitchen. Oven size, a roasting pan, a carving knife, enough chairs. Owners know their houses and would rather answer now than on Thursday morning.
  • Shop on Tuesday or Wednesday. Small-town grocery stores near these homes get busy, and some close early on the holiday itself.
  • Plan the Sunday drive. Return traffic is often heavier than the trip up. Ask whether a later checkout is possible.
  • Bringing the dog? Confirm the pet policy before you book. It varies from house to house.

About Locèlle, and why these homes are booked direct

Locèlle is a curated collection of design-led vacation homes. We do not process bookings or add fees. We introduce you to the owner, and you book with them.

Jorge and I started Locèlle in 2025. We host a farmhouse in Kennebunkport, Maine, and we kept seeing the most considered homes buried under generic listings, while fees grew at checkout. So we built something closer to a magazine than a marketplace. Every home is chosen by hand and presented with its story.

Booking direct helps most on a holiday trip. The price you agree is the price you pay, with no service fee on the last screen. You talk to the person who knows the house, so you can ask about the oven before you commit. And the owner can say yes to a late checkout or first call on next year's dates.

Frequently asked questions

When should I book a Thanksgiving vacation rental?

As soon as you can. Large homes that sleep eight or more are the first to go for Thanksgiving, often weeks ahead. Six weeks out, there is still choice, but it narrows quickly in November.

How many bedrooms does a group of 12 need?

Count beds rather than bedrooms. Twelve people usually need at least five bedrooms with some bunks or twins, or two homes close together. Ask the owner for the exact bed layout before you book.

Can I cook a full Thanksgiving dinner in a vacation rental?

In most homes with a full kitchen, yes. Confirm the oven size, whether there is a roasting pan, and whether there are enough plates, glasses and chairs for your group. Bring your own carving knife if you are particular about it.

Is it cheaper to book a holiday rental directly with the owner?

Booking direct removes the platform service fee that guests pay on most booking sites. You pay the owner's rate, plus any cleaning fee and taxes they set. The nightly rate itself is up to each owner.

How do I book one of these homes?

Each listing on Locèlle connects you with the owner by email, WhatsApp or their own booking site. You agree your dates and pay the owner directly. Locèlle adds no booking fee and takes no commission.
